Transcript:

Josh (Host): We've seen things like candles or pouring in the sand or the tying the knot. We've also... this was kind of fun. We've seen one couple had a little whiskey barrel, and they both had their two favorite whiskeys, and they poured it into their whiskey barrel, each one of them. And they created their own mix.

Taylor Strobe (Guest): Oh yeah. And then they're going to let, you know, let that sit and say it, and then they'll drink it on their anniversary. Oh, that's so... Yeah, that was a fun way to, to, you know, incorporate, you know, a little bit more personalized. Yeah. I'm part of that symbolic, you know, tradition was combining the two families.

Josh (Host): Hello and welcome to the Colorado Wedding podcast. We are the ultimate place to go to plan your Colorado wedding. And today we are here with Taylor Strobe. She is the owner of Mountainside Events. She's seen a ton of Colorado weddings. She's born and raised here in Colorado. And she has been in the wedding hospitality industry for 12 years. So she's really seen a ton of stuff, and we've done some past content with her, and it's been awesome. So today we're going to be unpacking wedding decor checklist, and she's got a ton of great information today she's going to share with us. So thank you, Taylor, so much for being here. Thank you. I know you've been on before. Could you just give us a quick, quick story of who you are, who the company is, and what you guys do and why do you love what you do here?

Taylor Strobe (Guest): Yeah, I do. Yeah. So I'm Taylor Strobe. I am the owner of Mountainside Events, and we're a wedding and event planning company here in Fort Collins, Colorado. And yeah, we've been in business for over seven years as a company. I've been planning weddings, even dates back longer than that and definitely loves to. I love what I do. And, you know, I love being able to help couples. We do everything from month of coordination to partial and full-service planning. So we're very involved in wedding day and details and we've seen a lot of weddings and events and happy to give our advice and expertise and what we've seen work well.

Josh (Host): Well, great. Yeah. Well, thanks for being here and thanks for all the advice and expertise you're able to give. Sure. Give the following here in Colorado. So let's jump in. So we're going to be talking about a ceremony checklist for planning your wedding. And we have just tons of great information here from your blog. Again, a wealth of information there. Head on over there. Check that out. So can you just jump right on in here? So there's so many different things to consider, but we're just going to jump through a couple here. So with florals, we'll start there.

Taylor Strobe (Guest): Yes. So, yeah, when it comes to the ceremony, I mean, for us, it can be a huge statement piece. You know, we work with a lot of really great florists in the area, and we always suggest working with a professional, somebody that does this for a living. Yeah. Not to say that you can't do this. Of course, we have seen that quite a bit, and it's gone successfully. But, you know, having somebody come through, know your vision, know your colors, see your whole style, and then be able to incorporate that into the flowers for the ceremony is really great. You know, it could be something like a statement piece on an arch altar by, you know, something fun like that. It could be flowers going down the aisle, you know, by who's definitely great ways to like really incorporate that. It may sound like a really bold statement for your ceremony. Totally. Well awesome. How about signage?

Josh (Host): So signage is definitely pretty important as well for a ceremony. This can be anything from just like a welcome sign, you know, letting people know, you know, welcome to our wedding. Can the couple's names on it? Yeah. Also potentially any other signage that you would like to share with your guests? For example, if you're not having specific sides, it could be something cute, like pick a seat, not a side. You know, sign us in for an unplugged wedding sign or it's like, you know, please put your cell phones away so that way doesn't to shy from photographers and videographers that are capturing those moments, too. Yeah. All love that.

Taylor Strobe (Guest): And I've seen a lot of mean ceremony arches, especially in picturesque mountain settings. Do you like to include those?

Josh (Host): Yeah, absolutely. Arches are great and can definitely make for a really cool backdrop. We have a couple of arches that we actually include in our wedding decor as well. So awesome. Yeah. We have a triangular site. I believe our inverted church, you know, they square ours, you know. So a couple of resources that we offer for our clients. But you know, somebody wants to go a little bit different than that. You know, they absolutely can do something different. They can bring in their own or we can work with another, you know, a rental company to bring that as well.

Taylor Strobe (Guest): And also, how about some altar decor in the ceremony?

Josh (Host): Yeah. So when thinking through like other decor for that, you know absolutely can put something you know on your archer altar. It could be some draping depending on what exactly it looks like. Or you could also just have something, you know, on the sides. Could be hot in class. You know, next to you could be you know, fun bohemian vibe rugs that you're standing on, you know. So absolutely. Other like decorative items, too, I just kind of incorporate into the overall space as well. Yeah, I see you have aisle runners and just additional aisle decor as well. What are some of those pieces look like?

Taylor Strobe (Guest): Yeah. So for runners, you know, rugs can be a great option if you are going with the boho look like having multiple rounds that kind of overlap over each other is great. We definitely don't suggest those paper-thin you know, like runners that go down mainly because they're really hard to keep down. They're also really hard to keep clean. Yeah, so we've had not great experiences, but also and so those are ones I would say skip on that. Yeah, it'd just go with you're going to have a runner or something do do some rugs or, or even could be flower petals lining down the aisle as well. Oh yeah. I've seen that. Right. Yeah. A candle or candles or something. Yeah, exactly. Something fun. Yeah, yeah, yeah. Awesome. Well, how about a ring box or a vow box as well, incorporating that in the ceremony?

Taylor Strobe (Guest): Yeah. So, I mean, obviously those are some of the, you know, more personalized special moments. You know, if you have a ring bearer, somebody carrying the rings, having a, you know, fun custom box or something like that is great fireworks. You know, having those be a little bit more special or custom, you know, as well. That could be something that your officiant is holding on to and then gives to each of the couple or each person that's involved. And, you know, so just as another way to kind of put your special session to that. Yeah. And I know you've talked about too, with a flower girl having a decor there like a jar or some just cute all in the flower petals or something.

Josh (Host): Yeah. So your florals. Yeah, exactly. I mean, you do the traditional flower baskets, one that I saw earlier this year was flower fairies, which I thought was adorable. Instead of just flower bottles there came down wearing flower crowns. But then waiving ones and going down the aisle that way it was for no fun thing. Yeah. Yeah. This will also. How about wedding programs designing those to fit the wedding theme? How do you go about kushnir couples there?

Taylor Strobe (Guest): Yeah. So with programs, if the couple decides that they wanted to do something like that, this can be something that you can create an element of fun to IT programs. You know, there's a number of things that you could do outside of just a traditional just paper program. It could be like a fan, especially if it's a hot day program can serve as a fan very nice and easy for. Oh, then I've never seen that. Yeah. So like, you know, having a double-sided or something in the. Yeah. They can, you know, use it as a fan. Yeah. And it so has, you know, some tidbits or notes on, on the ceremony or the timelines, schedules, you know, who's maybe in the procession, you know, things like that. Or you could also go and make it like a little bit creative as adding in other tidbits or milestones of the couple. You know, I've seen some really creative ones, you know, not only have like the timeline of the wedding day, but maybe even the timeline of their flights, you know, like when they met and when they got a dog and, you know, when they bought their first house. And then sure, there the wedding day, you know, and and make it a little bit, you know, creative. And I asked ice or maybe have notes of the places that people have traveled from too. Yeah. So that wedding. Oh, that's great. Yeah, exactly. You can have a world map as you have people that are coming from all over the world and say, you know, here's all the places that people travel from or where you might be going on a honeymoon, You know, that could be, you know, something that you could you could add into a program, you know, outside of just like the traditional wedding procession and who's in in the wedding party. But then also you can, you know, put in a little like thank you to our guests for coming. Also, this is a great way to get a little bit more creative and yeah, personalize this with your wedding day. Awesome. In addition to these awesome nine points you got here, is there anything else creative in that decorations world that you've seen at ceremonies that is notable that you love?

Taylor Strobe (Guest): Yeah. I mean, so obviously like any sort of specific symbolic part of the ceremony. Yeah, we incorporate it as well. We've seen things like candles or pouring in the sand or the tying the knot. We've also this was kind of fun. We've seen one or one couple had a little whiskey barrel and they both had their two favorite whiskeys and and they poured it into their whiskey barrel, each one of them, and they created their own mix. Oh yeah. And then they're going to let, you know, let that sit and say it, and then they'll drink it on their anniversary. Oh so yeah, that was a fun way to, to, you know, incorporate, you know, a little bit more personalized. Yeah. I'm part of that symbolic, you know, tradition was combining the two families. Totally. Yeah. So creative.
